The Eye(I) of Poe

As we age, gaining wisdom from experience and assimilating hidden impulses of spirit we realize that not only does history repeat itself in a certain sense but that one’s own thinking, feeling, and will – its embryos of creativity – all aspects of inner life come to life again in repetitive ways. However what is most significant is the fact that if one looks diligently can find the elusive spirit at work through its effectual impulses- always achieving newness with its pursuits – a repetition in historicity in its truest sense is maya.  Maybe a creative rhythm has begun to express itself more intimately through your being – where there is 14 days or so of incubation before the spirit’s language advances freely, if blessed one is allotted three days before the return to ordinary consciousness – when the pendulum must swing back.

We may believe that man’s position in the world – the way he or she experiences themselves in the struggles and joys of life has always been more or less the same at least since the time of the printing press.  Even with such sophisticated views of humanity that are currently held – many still view the humanity of much older ages as primitive – not yet where we are -believing we have internalized all there is to know of the riddles of existence.  If one does penetrate deeper into the pages of history, isolating certain themes of its content, the views of the human soul that were extended along with the feeling expressed as a self contained ego at different junctures in time offers proof not only for the advancing spirit in the world – pressing an optimistic stamp into a pessimistic stronghold but it also shows a cosmic intelligence is still at work under the surface- more specifically a Christ impulse is revealed and because of this even if the truth of the Christ living in a bodily sheath upon earth as Christ Jesus were to be eliminated from external record- the Gospels themselves eradicated – the spirit of Christ- the substance of what elevates us into higher worlds or the so called heavenly realms – could still be accessed by human souls through its very thinking and feeling.

When looking back over the breadth of history that is accessible with normal consciousness there are many instances of course of a return or a semblance of repetition in what unfolds. This is not due only to the plans of humanity – the willful sins or the ones done in ignorance, but in actuality one would need to levitate to where the angels inhabit – would need to penetrate into the higher worlds where the creative thread does not end in decay and to search there for the finer streams that bring reality into view and to expose that of which moves culture to not repeat as it is sometimes thought of,  but to build, to grow, and to emerge from itself as it is led on by spiritual beings.  The more one can silence the physical senses along with any leaking in of ordinary memory then do the beings more readily appear that emerge again and again to directly work into the universe’s essential fabric.

It has been calculated by profound souls that the course of human history since the time of Atlantean Civilization extending up to that point that concludes our travels in this earhtly condition of consciousness, can be divided into 7 cultural periods of development or Post Atlantean epochs.  Humanity is currently making its way through the fifth Post Atlantean epoch of civilization – one that began in the year 1413 of our current era.   A few epochs before this current epoch – one would find the third or the Egyptian – Chaldean – Babylonian – Hebrew period.   A stretch of time lasting thousands of years and coming before the epoch in which the Christ incarnated which witnessed the intellectual life of man come alive in the Greek thinker.  These first three epochs since our great civilization was destroyed are then repeated or recapitulated but not so much in a plain external way but more internally do they bring back an inner essence in new forms.  For example, the essence of the 1st epoch will appear in the last or 7th cultural epoch  – the 2nd comes again in the 6th period of time and the third- this ancient Egyptian epoch corresponds to the one we exist in, move and find our being within.   So it is this ancient Egyptian epoch we can look for a connecting link to our very own time.

If we combine this occult truth with a sign of the times, a characteristic of our current age which is broad I admit – can lead us on how to better feel and view ourselves in such a cosmic wisdom imbued legacy that we possess which has never entered fully into the minds of men.   This modern time has seen the individual take shape in more and more freedom of expression.  With more fervent intensity does he or she claw into a deeper rigid materialism but at the same time do they ascend into heaven or at least attempt.  Is there an example then of a man who perhaps never fully realized some of the beings who inspired him, beings that could have been at work in some context inspiring persons but on a group or community level through long blood lines in the Egyptian temples and is now able to move more freely -enjoying the fragmentation of individualized personhood?  Does this ancient conception of cosmic order of ancestral memory – some of its only traces are the misinterpreted genealogies thought to consist of one sole individual in the early sections of Genesis?  Does this find its way to an individual by choice of imagery?  Through the artistic gifts of Edgar Allen Poe in the mid 19th century does this seep through?

We might think we can know a man such as Poe since more scholarly work has brought together details of his life but still much has perhaps taken on a kind of fantastical depiction.  There have been some who have looked into the details of his life to see what could have driven this man to create the art he did when gothic literature was in opposition to the reason of the day.  These endeavors of looking into the minds of others to understand the madness or genius that he or she possess has brought forth impressive results since psychology in its modern sense came about. However something significant changes and makes these elucidations seem so elementary when one goes beyond looking purely from the human standpoint especially with the lens of psychoanalysis.  Thinkers like Camille Paglia who penetrate figures such as Mr. Poe – those artists who have articulated an archaic mythos and others like Carl Jung who also saw this ancient mythical consciousness displayed in modern times.  One can of course be a pupil of Dr Jung with his archetypal psychology and collective unconscious – viewing these myths as possessions of humanity’s  intentions that are unable to be brought to consciousness – stored in the askasha and poured forth in pathology and can find satisfaction in that.  We gain a wealth of knowledge when these accounts are thought upon –  gives us rich content to bring to our concepts that shape our feeling  – to be able to see how man in these ways is quite a unique being assimilating so much ancestral heritage.  Even when appreciating his inner feats like attributing to him the  shaping of literature by pioneering psychological interiority in American fiction can open up expanses to learn more about what is to be human – but even so-  with this treasure trove of wisdom we can do better to squeeze out healing power through the hearing of truth. Things are different when one realizes the medicine that is secured for a soul when truth is fed on. There is something toxic about always concluding that these matters must end in an unconscious or subconscious realm never able to have confidence in what isn’t material or always engaging in Luciferic expansions into higher dimensions that leave us impractical – unable to find a way to integrate imagination into creative action.

If we take a moment to strip away all that made its way to Mr Poe’s consciousness throughout his younger years up till his most zealous writing – all that makes one into a completed person in one life on earth and try to glimpse what may be behind the content and how his characters and elements interact with a story’s natural inertia- the feeling its engenders in the soul than in time a richer expression of what is at work in literature shines through.  We can see that impulses – true realities are in constant evolution working before the man or woman gets a hold of them.  Mr. Poe wasn’t only simply regressing back to the time of Hermes – imputing the mythical imagery as outlets for impulses that have evolved in very Darwinian ways since 3,000 BCE. but there is also an entire invisible or spiritual side that a human being is dependent on.  We can never achieve the heights we are destined for if we don’t ever reach out beyond how we ourselves have become accustomed to relate to the world as a result of childhood trauma, and social forces like positivistic pedagogies.

One can pierce his long prose poem Eureka and in it find a universe that emerges from unity, fragments into multiplicity, and returns again to oneness. Which leaves us a concrete spiritual thread that harkens back to that eastern Heliopolis.metaphysics of old.  And if we turn to one of his short stories that perhaps was just a mere psychological horror story for some – The Tell-Tale Heart (1843) and realize that we perhaps were never were given anything of real substance from this author-  especially if one only brings a limited imagination such as attempting to figure out the motif for a literal murder.  Perhaps we remember that he was a frequent partaker of those spirits that hide in alcohol  and even if he were not in a state of inibriation as often as those mischaracterizations make it out to be – there must have been both  positive and negative consequences.  Positive in the sense that he was not consciously able to guide to the fullest extent the deepest parts of his symbolism and the movements of the plot – leaving other impulses or beings to act which extended the benefit for future readers.  Negative in that a severance occurs between a person’s soul and the surrounding spiritual world when alcohol is ingested.  Harm is inflicted on our highest member –  our I or Ego.  If the spirit of man is doused with these spirits he loosens his conscious grasp of what makes him eternal,  impeding the development of spiritual organs,  he is then unable like Moses to gain the Promised land – grasp his own origins of his art.  When the partaking of alcohol became recreational – used in new ways – was about the time consciousness was descending from the world of the stars into the terrestrial sphere and it was already becoming apparent especially in the latter years of this epoch that perceiving the source of life –  the connection to the gods was gone.  The ability to perceive spiritual beings or to taste this cosmic memory was exchanged for the bright waking consciousness of today.  This was partly brought to pass by the continual taking in of alcohol,  coinciding with the third post atlantean epoch.  This was a civilization that could still access the ancestral ego  and the beings that administer cosmic memory.  A consciousness that would begin to not find itself woven into the subtler elements of sound and the spirits behind the symbols of the zodiac but separated off – learning to be able to perceive its surroundings with precision with external sense perception and rational acumen of the intellect.  The reader must decide if a pursuit of this type serves to stimulate productive inner forces, weigh whether it’s helpful to imagine that there were and are still now beings from long ago beginning to bring this poet or anyone to realization of a special guilt that in past ages was to be made right from his or their perspective as well as the gods who have their attention on us.  Or one can decide to remain with traditional explanations of the wonders of human consciousness.

In the Tell-Tale Heart,  in a variety of ways one can find traces of Egyptian symbolism but then again symbolic representation has ever been fastening increased quantities of representations for this and for that, so finding a genuine link is difficult, but also in some ways easier- showing us how simpler it becomes for one to prove this or that theory.  One can learn how to use a gently applied inner symbolic language that does not cause one to float in the clouds. Maybe this is finding patterns with numbers in the happenings of life which in turn bring moments of bliss or strengthens the soul in very real ways but the moment one lives always believing that these patterns or synchronicities in world content are some oracle – reading signs everywhere as prophecy than it has now become destructive.   In other words, it is something that if practiced with restraint can achieve a certain leavening of the heaviness that egoism can yield. One must be humble and balanced in how they integrate these imaginations. Man’s inner life is still fragile – easily influenced.

I myself do not know if some spiritual being who was responsible for orchestrating the year of Mr Poe’s publication of this story had left a sign of sorts and wanted at least one soul to see it and thus be led through a personal practice of seeing life differently that can reveal- if practiced consistently- much more solid or concrete spiritual truth.   If you split the number set of 4 digits of the year it was put forth – 18 and 43 and add these two sides together keeping them separated you arrive on one side with  9 and the other side comes to make 7.  Then if one multiplies the two sides we are left with the numerical of 63.

This number doesn’t seem to be special that of 63 – one can’t readily find in it the plethora of sacred numbers of antiquity but it is there in a somewhat abstract figure – representing  spiritual completeness as the 7 conditions of consciousness can be seen being permeated in ever recurring ways by the 9 spiritual hierarchies above man.   But more so, it is present in a very significant juncture in specific age within an individual’s life span.   The age of 63 brings with it a gift- a memory of sorts – one that does not consist in recalling observable facts from the past so much but one that reaches into the inner depths of the soul of one’s  life .  Allowing them an inner abode of peace to rest in other than at night in sleep – a gift that can open up the spiritual threads that have been pieced together in one’s life since birth.  If one is blessed enough to live to the age of  63 – one has the opportunity to reach beings that lie much above us in the hierarchies of heaven  – the spirits that guide evolution.

Some of these beings are called Saturn beings not by any connection to how modern astronomy grasps it or the day’s materialistic astrology but it refers to a very ancient point in cosmic evolution.  We will leave the reader to find them – to learn of them-  but we only mention that they are the preservers of cosmic memory in the most foundational sense – granting the ability of conscious beings to utilize memory, hence granting them eternal life as the spiritual world evolves.  However we must keep in mind that these beings do not directly appear in observable history nor can their work be perceived directly as their initial impulses are further worked on by beings of different natures and purposes that carry on the karmic or creative threads of life.

The revealer of this esoteric reality is not Poe but one who was in much more in control of inner creativity and he reveals that if one makes it to about 63/64 years of age that they are able to see into  certain rhythms of past ages that were veiled – understand the gerontology of their own personal life.  Mysteries become known that hovered around certain 7 year periods of growing in wisdom and favor.  This epoch of time of Ancient Egypt carried a worship of the spiritual sun and moon and experienced the working of beings that would have leading roles in cosmic evolution – achieving wisdom in the inner man allowing him to learn instincts and intuitions – to form his own knowledge of the world by carrying forth its  fascination with knowledge of ritual and temple memory, cosmic law mirrored in earthly order,  the heart as moral memory,  judgment after death, preservation of the body, and cosmic time cycles or rounds

Are these forces at work in the creative dispositions of Poe as we look deeper at certain elements and symbols he chooses?  Does a never silencing HEART, ONE EVIL EYE of an  OLD MAN preserve  a remembrance of the Eye of Horus?  Or by his use of premature burial does it find its origin in Egyptian mummification  or in the dismemberment  is there a link to the myth of Osiris?  One of course would need to be acquainted with Egyptian esotericism- along with the many forms of the myths of Osiris and Isis and also to understand how the psyche of man has evolved.  There are multiple explicit passages one can find in the Book of the Dead even where the heart functions as a moral witness – one that remembers, speaks, accuses, and must be restrained.  For Example : there is  section that is often called “Spell for Preventing the Heart from Testifying Against a Man in the Realm of the Dead,” it reads (standard translation,  modernized):

“O my heart which I had from my mother,
O my heart of my different ages,
Do not stand up as a witness against me,
Do not oppose me in the tribunal,
Do not make your opposition to me in the presence of the keeper of the balance.”

One can decide for themselves if there is Egyptian blood or rather spirit in the fingers of Poe led on by a new Isis perhaps leading another Son of Osiris back to the father- the unity of spirit.  Then perhaps we will know more of what is working into the consciousness of men who  move culture in definite directions.  For it is not just the unknown that causes some to go mad but the inherited karma from one’s past – from beings that make memory possible throughout all hierarchies engaged in spiritual evolution.  From beings that inherently know more of what was driving the subconscious or semi-conscious impulses for Poe and many thinkers of that day to turn back to the East.

Perhaps Poe himself was working out a karmic thread – securing a salvation for himself by instinctively letting the heart of Osirus live on as Horus-  ever beating and bringing new life – a new consciousness.  A nice personal archetypal myth lived out in his own way- a practice of which people nowadays could  benefit from if woven with finesse into their lives.   Just as the clairvoyance was to go extinct at the time much of this mythical imagery first arose all along guided by infinitely higher beings than perhaps we are to lose again some inner faculty as room is made for the growth of another – one that allows us to take the fruit of what was cultivated in the modern era  as a new organ of spirit appears, making it  possible for us to mingle with the spirits of the stars of Heaven.
